Biography

Dr. Barnes returned to the University of Oklahoma, his alma mater, in August of 2007 when he left his faculty position at George Mason University to join the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering as an Assistant Professor. Ron had graduated from OU with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1998. He then received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 2005 while working in the area of complexity-effective microarchitecture.

The focus of Dr. Barnes' current research is on multi-core and other novel computer architectures and their interaction with static and dynamic compilers. Marrying reduced-complexity architectures with intelligent compiler design, this work addresses the major challenges in computer architecture including power and performance constraints and memory latency. His recent work was recognized in 2006 as one of IEEE Micro's Top Picks from computer architecture conferences.
